Immaculate Conception School’s iconic playground was built over 30 years ago and enjoyed by generations of school children. A group of enthusiastic parents along with then pastor the Reverend Monsignor Hebert spearheaded the planning and community build of the playground. After hundreds of volunteer hours, the ICS playground became a beloved part of our campus.
The playground's construction was mostly all wood and susceptible to the harsh south Louisiana climate. Despite the best efforts to maintain the structure, the upkeep had become overwhelming. Much of the structure was rotting and causing safety issues.
The existing playground was removed at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. The plans for the new playground are underway. The estimated total cost of the entire project, including demolition, the turf surfacing, aluminum fencing and the play structure itself is approximately $350,000.
Yes, that is a large price tag but building and construction costs are quite hefty and this playground will be made of vinyl coated metal, composite material, built to withstand weather and the test of time. The projected timeline for completion is Spring 2025.
Through ICS’s annual Charger Fun Run over $90,000 has already been raised for the playground over the last two years. But, we still have a long way to go!
Any donation you can make will go towards making a new playground a reality for future generations of Chargers!
